Mental Health Awareness Week With Soul

Monday 9th May 2022, marks the start of Mental Health Awareness week and as you will all know by now, Soul is not just a candle and fragrance company, but a business with the wellness of its customers at the heart and soul (no pun intended) of what we do. Soul was created with a desire to support wellbeing through offering a range that contains luxury essential oils.

The theme for this year’s Mental Health Awareness week is loneliness, one that I’m sure most of us can relate to in one way or another. For me, loneliness has become a bigger feature in my life since becoming a mother.

Which sounds bizarre doesn’t it? Surely when you have children you’re never alone and therefore never lonely?

But I’m sure any of you with children will understand. In fact, I’m sure any of you who have experienced loneliness before will understand that you can be surrounded by people, both family or strangers and still feel lonely. From the terrifying start of motherhood when you don’t know what you’re doing and feel like you can’t ask - for fear of looking incompetent. To the long, lonely nights soothing and feeding babies, when it feels like you’re the only person in the world awake. It’s intense and you feel like you’re alone - but you’re not!

With everything that has been going on over the last few years, it’s more important than ever to ask the question ‘Are you ok?’ and actually listen to the answer. To check in on the seemingly strong friends, the popular friends, the busy friends, the quiet friends. Loneliness doesn’t discriminate! Loneliness is different for every single one of us. It’s the difference between the social interaction we need and the social interaction we’re getting which means it can ebb and flow throughout our lives as circumstances change.

It’s important to break the stigma around both mental health and loneliness and in my opinion, the best way to do this is to talk about it. To share our own experiences and be open about how we overcame our struggles. Which is partly why I share on this blog and over on my Instagram page - to connect with you.

When I started Soul, I knew I wanted to be more than a fragrance company. In fact, our flagship range was created to relax, uplift and soothe with 'relax' being at the heart of it all. I will always continue to keep this ethos as the business grows. Essential oils can be so powerful in impacting our mood, and often our environment has a huge impact on how we approach each day.

If you’re feeling fresh, uplifted and inspired you’re more likely to go out and interact with other people! If you’re feeling stressed and overwhelmed, lighting a soothing candle at the end of the day might just give you the reprieve you need to call a friend and tell them how you’re feeling and talk through any problems.

We get the most incredible feedback on our ranges and it is so special to me to feel like I am positively impacting the wellbeing of others with my products. So I’ll continue to do what I do. I’ll continue to talk to you about how I’m feeling, and my own experiences and I hope you’ll do the same! My inbox is always open to you, my amazing community.
